Construction Update February 2013: Pre-Leasing Coming Soon to Shores!

What a difference a few months make! The spring 2013 grand opening of Shores is just a few months away. The exteriors of buildings A and B have been painted in the contemporary Shores colors, the appliances are being installed in several buildings and the park-like courtyard is under construction! Next stop… pre-leasing, coming soon!

In order to make it possible for you to select and reserve your new Shores home online, Shores will be launching its new website in March.  The new website will be designed to be fully social and interactive…just like the Shores community. It will feature online pre-leasing capabilities, a Marina del Rey neighborhood map where you can check out all of the best local restaurants and hangouts, plus a cool interactive site plan, where you can select your favorite  Shores unit based on where, when and how you want to live (marina, ocean or courtyard view?).  Just wait until you see the new website…it’s going to really give you a taste of what’s in store for you at Shores!

With all of these developments, Shores General Manager Sue Kohan expects the first Shores apartments to be ready for occupancy in late spring.

“We have nearly 900 people signed up on the community interest list, who have been patiently waiting for Shores to be completed,” she said. “We’ll be giving them first priority on selecting their apartments—so that’s why we encourage anyone who is interested in living at Shores to sign up on the Interest List.”

If you have not yet registered on the Interest List for Shores, it’s not too late. You can register here.

Future Shores Traditions: The 2013 Academy Awards

The crowning jewel of Hollywood will bring the 2013 awards season to an end this Sunday, February 24. The stars are getting ready to strut down the red carpet, the streets are closing down in Hollywood and Seth MacFarlane is preparing to host the big event…how are you going to prepare for the 85th Academy Awards? Or rather yet, how are you going to celebrate this star-studded event next year…when you’re living at Shores? Here are four fun ideas for getting in the Oscar spirit that can become part of your future Shores traditions.

1. Pick a Nominee and Watch All the Movies He or She has Starred In All Weekend Long

If you’re living in Shores by next year, chances are, you’ll have the coolest apartment with the coolest views amongst your friends. So why not invite your best buds over for a movie viewing night prior to Sunday? Pick a few of your favorite movies with the stars who are up for Best Actor and Best Actress this year. This year, you’ll have your pick between Bradley Cooper (swoon!), Jennifer Lawrence, Denzel Washington, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts or Daniel Day Lewis. Jennifer Lawrence may be a star on the rise, but she’s got The Hunger Games and X-Men under her belt . Rent them at your local Blockbuster kiosk (located at 4365 Glencoe Ave), since it’s only three miles away from Shores. Or find them on Netflix and check out the evolution of a newly famous Hollywood movie star.

2. Watch Past Oscar Winners

Last year, The Artist scooped up four Oscars, Hugo won five and Meryl Streep won best actress for the Iron Lady. Since the Oscars began in 1928, you have a very extensive selection to pick from. Choose a category and watch as many past Oscar winners as you can or pick a year and watch all the winners from that year. You might even reserve a spot in the community viewing room, with a large widescreen TV, to watch the movies of your choice. Either way, you’ll be able to marvel at the growth of the film industry  with your friends and neighbors…or just enjoy some great popcorn.

3. Host an Oscar Pampering Party

A big portion of the Oscar experience is judging all the nominees on what they are wearing on the red carpet. Unfortunately, us normal folk can’t afford the five-star nutritionists, designer gowns with six-figure price tags or the professional stylists it takes to look as flawless as all of the beauties who walk the carpet. But, that doesn’t mean that we can’t feel like a million bucks at home. Since your space at Shores could have up to1,284 square feet, with a state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen and plenty of room for hoisting a large flat-screen TV on the wall, it’s the perfect place to gather up your friends and host a red carpet pampering party! Make some cucumber water to de-tox, slather on a nice avocado mask and lounge around in plush robes while watching the beautiful people win awards on screen. If you’re flying solo for the day, you can also head over to the new Spa Nautica at the Ritz-Carlton just minutes away from Shores and spend the day relaxing before curling up on your couch to watch the red carpet events.

4. Dress Up and Host an Oscar Viewing Party

Naturally, this goes without saying—many of you have probably hosted your own viewing parties for the Oscars at one point or another. Shores is the best place to host the ultimate Academy Awards party. Join your neighbors and friends for a night of fun in the courtyard with champagne, fancy hors d’oeuvres, Oscar party games and decorations, as you watch your favorite celebrities take home golden statues on the big outdoor screen. If you want to keep the party more intimate, take it back to your private pad, and deck it out in gold. And why not send out formal invitations to your your exclusive VIPers and request formal attire for the night’s festivities? No dress, no tie, no service!

In a city that revolves around the film industry, it’s hard not to get excited about the Oscars every year.If nothing else, it’s a great excuse to bring your friends together and enjoy cinematic history. That’s why it’s such a great future tradition to start at Shores.

Future Shores Traditions: Valentine’s Day

Ready to fall in love…with Shores? Few neighborhoods in Los Angeles rival the romance found in Marina del Rey…whether your passions are ignited by watching an enchanting ocean sunset on your balcony, strolling hand-in-hand with your love along the Marina or enjoying one of the outstanding prix fixe Valentine’s Day menus offered at one of the many nearby restaurants, living at Shores will provide you with endless opportunities to share life’s most romantic moments with your amour. Here are a couple of ways to spend Valentine’s Day at Shores.

1. Spend an Evening At Home

If you prefer to spend a quiet night wrapped in your sweetheart’s arms, then stay home! Light some candles, chill a bottle of your favorite champagne and enjoy the comforts of home enhanced by the luxury amenities at Shores. Watch the sun dip below the horizon while eating chocolate covered strawberries on your balcony…or even better…from the Sky Terraces rooftop. Draw a bubble bath for your honey in your apartment…or head down to the community’s relaxing Jacuzzi, where you both can wind down (or steam up?).

2. Spend the Day At Burton Chace Park

Did you know that Burton Chace Park is only two miles away from Shores? That means it’s only a 35-minute walk or a 15-minute bike ride away. With the historically pleasant February weather in Marina del Rey, why not take the whole day off and pack a romantic picnic lunch so you can spend quality time with your love in the great outdoors?

3. Take Your Love Out To Dinner

There are plenty of fantastic dining options just minutes away from Shores. Café del Rey, Shanghai Red’s, Via Veneto, Casa Ado, C&O Trattoria…the list goes on and on. Whether you’re in the mood for Italian or seasonal California cuisine, many of these restaurants offer Valentine’s Day specials…just don’t forget to make a reservation a few weeks in advance!

4. Sail Around the Marina on  a Dinner Cruise

If you want to give your significant other a true “Marina del Rey Valentine’s Day experience,”you must book a romantic dinner cruise around the Marina at some point when you live at Shores. This year, Hornblower Dinner Cruises offer a private four-course dinner with champagne flowing all night long and live music entertainment to set the mood. (Not that you will need anything more than ocean breezes, the quiet lull of the cruise boat and the twinkling lights on shore to inspire the most romantic moment.)

February 14 will surely be a day to remember every year at Shores… whether you’re blissfully attached or unattached.  Even if you’re single, you could always join your fellow residents for a S.A.D. (Singles Awareness Day) party in the clubhouse! Happy Valentine’s Day from Shores!

Find the Right Home At Shores: The Two-Bedroom Plans

Are you moving in with your significant other and need a little extra room? Or do you have a roommate where you need dual (not dueling) master suites? Shores in Marina del Rey has the answer. The two-bedroom plans offer the best of both worlds, literally: dual master suites, two bathrooms, walk-in closets in both bedrooms, large balconies and of course, a modern apartment must-have: a washer/dryer inside the unit. If you require a little more space, read on!

f5_zuma-1Option # 1: The Del Rey

The “Del Rey” floor plan was designed for contemporary living with approximately 1,081 square feet. “This two-bedroom unit offers separated bedroom suites on opposite sides of the apartment, providing additional privacy for families or sharing roommates,” said Dale Yonkin, project director for Nadel Architects, the architecture firm behind Shores. “Walk-in closets for both bedrooms enhance their livability.” An open kitchen and dining room concept, plus a living room with plenty of wall space for your large flat screen TV also makes it easy to live side-by-side. And did we mention that the living room opens up to the balcony—perfect for enjoying those water or courtyard views at Shores? Other pluses also include extra closet space for storing your surfboards, paddleboard gear or priceless movie collection.

Option #2: The Zuma

Named after one of Malibu’s largest beaches, the “Zuma” floor plan offers approximately 1,284 square feet, spacious dual master suites with equally spacious walk-in closets, two large baths and a wide-open kitchen/dining/living room area—for the ultimate entertaining pad. The dramatic, curved balcony also adds a unique design element, not to mention a nice flood of natural light—a Southern California staple. Trust us…you’ll want to invite your best buds over for Saturday night cocktail hour or continue your famous French Toast battles with your roommate on Sundays in this apartment! And why wouldn’t you take advantage of the roomy living room area and get in shape with your Insanity DVDs on your big flat screen TV? (After all what could be more of a motivation to stay in shape than living just a short walk or bike ride away from the beach?) Extra storage closets on both sides of the unit also make it easy for storing just about anything under the sun.

When you look at these two-bedroom floor plans, can you picture yourself making a home at Shores? In just a short amount of time, it’s going to be even easier for you to “virtually” move into your Shores apartment with our new “Style My Pad” application, which will allow you to design each room by adding furniture, electronics and other household items into the online floor plans—so you’ll never wonder, “Will my couch fit?” The application is slated to launch with the revamped Shores website in late March—so keep your eyes out for it!

Now that you know a little more about the Shores floor plans, which one suits your lifestyle best?
