Future Shores Traditions: The 2013 Academy Awards

The crowning jewel of Hollywood will bring the 2013 awards season to an end this Sunday, February 24. The stars are getting ready to strut down the red carpet, the streets are closing down in Hollywood and Seth MacFarlane is preparing to host the big event…how are you going to prepare for the 85th Academy Awards? Or rather yet, how are you going to celebrate this star-studded event next year…when you’re living at Shores? Here are four fun ideas for getting in the Oscar spirit that can become part of your future Shores traditions.

1. Pick a Nominee and Watch All the Movies He or She has Starred In All Weekend Long

If you’re living in Shores by next year, chances are, you’ll have the coolest apartment with the coolest views amongst your friends. So why not invite your best buds over for a movie viewing night prior to Sunday? Pick a few of your favorite movies with the stars who are up for Best Actor and Best Actress this year. This year, you’ll have your pick between Bradley Cooper (swoon!), Jennifer Lawrence, Denzel Washington, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts or Daniel Day Lewis. Jennifer Lawrence may be a star on the rise, but she’s got The Hunger Games and X-Men under her belt . Rent them at your local Blockbuster kiosk (located at 4365 Glencoe Ave), since it’s only three miles away from Shores. Or find them on Netflix and check out the evolution of a newly famous Hollywood movie star.

2. Watch Past Oscar Winners

Last year, The Artist scooped up four Oscars, Hugo won five and Meryl Streep won best actress for the Iron Lady. Since the Oscars began in 1928, you have a very extensive selection to pick from. Choose a category and watch as many past Oscar winners as you can or pick a year and watch all the winners from that year. You might even reserve a spot in the community viewing room, with a large widescreen TV, to watch the movies of your choice. Either way, you’ll be able to marvel at the growth of the film industry  with your friends and neighbors…or just enjoy some great popcorn.

3. Host an Oscar Pampering Party

A big portion of the Oscar experience is judging all the nominees on what they are wearing on the red carpet. Unfortunately, us normal folk can’t afford the five-star nutritionists, designer gowns with six-figure price tags or the professional stylists it takes to look as flawless as all of the beauties who walk the carpet. But, that doesn’t mean that we can’t feel like a million bucks at home. Since your space at Shores could have up to1,284 square feet, with a state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen and plenty of room for hoisting a large flat-screen TV on the wall, it’s the perfect place to gather up your friends and host a red carpet pampering party! Make some cucumber water to de-tox, slather on a nice avocado mask and lounge around in plush robes while watching the beautiful people win awards on screen. If you’re flying solo for the day, you can also head over to the new Spa Nautica at the Ritz-Carlton just minutes away from Shores and spend the day relaxing before curling up on your couch to watch the red carpet events.

4. Dress Up and Host an Oscar Viewing Party

Naturally, this goes without saying—many of you have probably hosted your own viewing parties for the Oscars at one point or another. Shores is the best place to host the ultimate Academy Awards party. Join your neighbors and friends for a night of fun in the courtyard with champagne, fancy hors d’oeuvres, Oscar party games and decorations, as you watch your favorite celebrities take home golden statues on the big outdoor screen. If you want to keep the party more intimate, take it back to your private pad, and deck it out in gold. And why not send out formal invitations to your your exclusive VIPers and request formal attire for the night’s festivities? No dress, no tie, no service!

In a city that revolves around the film industry, it’s hard not to get excited about the Oscars every year.If nothing else, it’s a great excuse to bring your friends together and enjoy cinematic history. That’s why it’s such a great future tradition to start at Shores.
