Summer Concert at Burton Chace Park

One of the coolest parts of living at Shores — aside from the beautiful apartments and amazing amenities — is the location. Yep, it’s no mistake that we chose Marina del Rey as our lifestyle basecamp because, frankly, this town rocks. There’s so much going on (especially in the summertime!), and Shores’ residents are smack dab in the middle of all of it. Think about it: The MDR Farmer’s Market is just around the corner, Beach Eats is right at Mother’s Beach, and all of the sweet Burton Chace Park summer events are a short Waterbus ride away. All in all, we have the quintessential setting for an awesome coastal summer Shores people — and we want to make sure you don’t miss a thing. 5 Ideas for Your Shores’ 4th of July Celebration

4th of July Picnic

4th of July Picnic

Fire up the barbecues, grab some sparklers and get ready for some major fireworks, because summer’s biggest holiday is just around the corner. Saturday, July 4th marks 239 years since our plucky forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence and that’s definitely cause for celebration! Sure, there’s a ton of Independence Day happenings going on all around L.A., but when you live at Shores, you know there’s zero need to venture out into the traffic and crowds of the city. Nope, we have the best celebration options either right here at home, or just steps away.

Take a look at some of the best options for a fabulous Shores-style 4th of July.

1) Get a Rooftop View of the Fireworks Display

Marina del Rey is putting on one heck of a fireworks show for the 4th, and Burton Chace Park will definitely be filled to the gills with spectators. You, on the other hand, can chill out on Shores’ Sky Terrace and watch the lights fill up the sky without the hassle of venturing out. The fireworks start at 9 pm, so head up to the Sky Terrace early to grab a comfy spot to enjoy the show. If you’re craving the crowds, you can go to Burton Chace Park or Fisherman’s Village to catch the display, and still enjoy the perks of Shores’ primo location — just walk across to Mother’s Beach and hop on the MDR Water Bus for a $1 (it runs until Midnight!).

2) Relax Poolside

Shores happens to have a pretty spectacular pool, so invite a friend over and spend the day chilling by the pool, taking in the gorgeous harbor views, and soaking up the MDR sunshine. You’ll make our forefathers proud with your superior leisure capabilities!

3) Keep the 4th of July Picnic Tradition Going Strong

You know that beautiful two-acre park we have here at Shores? It’s custom made for a 4th of July picnic. Get together with a few neighbors, grab a Frisbee, pack a picnic and pick your spot! This is the quintessential 4th of July celebration— and it never loses its charm.

4) Be the Host with the Most

Great apartment for mingling, excellent kitchen for cooking, nice views for gazing — yep, your Shores apartment would definitely be a lovely setting for a pre-fireworks 4th of July soirée. Invite a few friends by for some all-American hors d’oeuvres, a signature cocktail (like the Svedka Vodka/Watermelon Schnapps “Born Free” cocktail here) and lots of red, white, and blue décor.

5) Head Out for a “Stars & Stripes Brunch Cruise”

If you’re looking for something different this 4th of July, reserve a spot on one of Hornblower’s cruises. This year, they’re offering three options: a Stars & Stripes Champagne Brunch Cruise, a Fireworks Dinner Cruise, or a Fireworks Observation Cruise. Totally fun options that never ever get old. And if you’re fretting about parking, don’t worry. You can leave your car at home at Shores, walk to Mother’s Beach and just take the Waterbus to Fisherman’s Village. Easy peazy.

What are your plans for the 4th? Let us know if you’ll be celebrating at Shores!

Make the Most of a Shores-Style Memorial Day

memorial-day-rememberStart wrapping up your workweek now, Shores peeps — because summer “unofficially” begins this weekend! Yep, Memorial Day is Monday and that makes this weekend extra long and extra fun with a lot going on around town and right here at home. Can’t decide what you want to do? Well here are some tried and true options that we highly recommend.

Picnic or BBQ at Shores

You just so happen to have a snazzy, two-acre park just steps from your apartment at Shores, and that park has plenty of room for a grassy picnic, a barbecue and even some summer-time activities like badminton or Frisbee!

Be the Beach Bum

Sure, we may not be immersed in the balmy summer temps yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t head to Mother’s Beach, Venice or even Malibu for a picnic spread and a relaxing walk on the beach.

Cruise with the Bubbly

Make a reservation on Hornblower’s Memorial Day Champagne Cruise on Saturday for a two-hour boat ride, a major buffet and free-flowing champagne. This option is always serious fun.

Take In a Sky Terrace Sunset

After a day on the beach, or the cruise, or the park — grab a bottle of vino or some summertime Sangria and head up to the Sky Terrace to catch that stunning harbor sunset.

Swim in Your Awesome Shores Pool

Yes, we know…. the 80˚ weather isn’t quite here yet — but hello, our pool is heated, big and spectacular. So really, who need the hot temps to have a great time?

Play Some Tennis

Just up the beach in Santa Monica you’ll find a ton of public tennis courts ready for you to reserve. What better way to spend Memorial Day Weekend than serving up your best Nadal (or Serena) impression? You can reserve your court right here.

Whatever you do— have a great Memorial Day Weekend, everyone! And on Monday, remember what the holiday is really about and take a moment to commemorate our fallen heroes.

How to Make the Most of Earth Day at Shores

Life at Shores is all about leading the best lifestyle on the planet. We’ve got the pristine location, the fab apartments, the amazing amenities and — since we’re one of the most forward-thinking communities out there — plenty of eco-friendly features that help keep our Marina del Rey setting healthy and beautiful. With Earth Day happening this Wednesday (April 22nd), we’re reminded of just how important that is… and what we can do to keep environmental responsibility in motion every day of the year.

EarthDay

At Shores, we try to help out by making sure all of our residents have ENERGY STAR® appliances at home; a smoke-free environment to keep our air clean; bonuses like EV charging stations for residents with electric cars; easy access to public transportation; and plenty of covered bicycle storage for our two wheel commuters out there. And we’re super proud to offer every one of those great advantages. But in day-to-day life, there’s so much all of us can do that will help the environment even more. Ready for some Earth Day-inspired ideas? Read on:

1) Recycle, Reduce and Reuse

This advice never gets old.

2) Conserve energy

Be more energy efficient by unplugging non-essential devices, using smart power strips, and turning off lights when not in use. Using less energy reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

3) Switch your light bulbs to longer lasting LED lights

LEDs are more efficient than traditional bulbs and last for years.

4) Only run your dishwasher or washing machine when you have full loads

Saving water is a big deal and this is a common-sense way to do it.

5) Scrape your dishes instead of rinsing before loading in the dishwasher

Another easy way to save water.

6) Wash your laundry in cold water whenever possible

When you don’t need to heat the water, you use less energy…and that reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

7) Investigate K-Cup alternatives if you use a single brew machine

Either buy a reusable K-cup, try a Recycle-a-Cup cutter OR think about buying a Ground to Grow On bin for recycling.

8) Volunteer for Nothin’ But Sand Beach Cleanups

Heal the Bay hosts these cleanup events the third Saturday of every month.

9) Try biking or walking instead of driving whenever you can

Is work nearby? Pedal your way there — it’s great exercise and it’s fun.

10) Get with the Meatless Monday program

Try some of these recipes for easy, delicious meals.

5 Springtime To-Dos for Shores Residents

Head up to a Sky Terrace and take a good long breath — you feeling that freshness in the air? That would be the arrival of spring at Shores! Yes, it’s pretty much always perfection in Marina del Rey, but after the equinox came last week it seems like the whole town is reinvigorated. Maybe that’s because there are always fun to-dos happening around town, and if you’re up for it, new possibilities unfolding every day. That’s the beauty of living at Shores — we’re never lacking in the good time department.

Ocean View from the Sky Terrace

Ocean View from the Sky Terrace

Let’s take a look at 5 of the best ways Shores’ residents can take advantage of springtime splendor.

1. Indulge in Your Own Home Turf Paradise

First on the list will always be the awesome amenities right at Shores. The weather right now is as amazing as it gets, and vegging out by that amazing pool, relaxing on the Sky Terraces, barbecuing up a feast, or challenging your neighbors to some bocce ball is 100% encouraged. Every day.

2. Hit the Farmer’s Market

When spring hits, the Farmer’s Market at Mother’s Beach is overflowing with some of our favorite eats (and most beautiful seasonal flowers). Artichokes, strawberries, fresh apricots and asparagus are just a few of springtime’s in-season gifts to our tummies. Every Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm, this is where you want to be.

3. Cruise with the Easter Bunny

Seriously, whether you’re a holiday fan or not — what’s more fun than sailing on a Hornblower cruise ship surrounded by free-flowing champagne, tons of chocolate, and a gourmet spread that could feed a kingdom? Yep, nothing. Two brunch cruises are happening on Sunday, April 5th… make your reservations!

4. Brush Up on Your Water Skills for Summer

Those few months before summer is the perfect time to master the waves so you can SUP like a champ, kayak without breaking a sweat, or get your balance down for some SUP Yoga.  Try SUP with Wade for SUP lessons or sign up with Aqua Yoga if you want to crush that Warrior Pose on the water.

5. Bike Up to Burton Chace Park for a Concert

The Burton Chace Park concerts kind of embody the small-town charm of Marina del Rey — plus, they’re really fun. The first spring concert of the year is happening on Saturday, March 21st at 1 pm with the great Bob DeSena Latin Jazz Band entertaining the afternoon masses. It’s only a little over 1.5 miles away from Shores, so pack a picnic and head over for the show.
